“In the early years of MMA, Jiu-Jitsu proved to be the most dominant sport. However, as MMA has evolved, jiu-jitsu has had to adapt, taking parts from other effective martial arts and combining them together to make an ideal hybrid. This is called submission grappling and is the main focus of our school, effective and high-quality grappling”.

SGC Beginners Checklist
To ensure you’re comfortable and prepared for your submission grappling journey, we’ve created the following checklist.
If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to get in touch with our team, and we’ll be happy to help you start your journey with ease.
Pack your bag with the following:
Fitted t-shirt/rashguard
Fitted shorts - best if they have no zips and no pockets
Leggings/spats - optional but beneficial to prevent cuts, mat burns and aid blood flow
Sliders or flip flops - you must remain barefoot at all times whilst on the tatami (mats) and have something covering the soles of your feet at all times whilst stepping off the mat. This includes whilst in the changing rooms and walking to and from the dojo.
Water bottle
Towel
Change of clothes
Hygienic requirements
Submission wrestling is a close-contact sport, so hygiene standards must be kept high.
Please ensure:
Both sets of nails (hands, feet) should be cut short
Any abrasions or cuts to be covered before the session
Any bleeding must be stopped before training continues
Showering after sessions is encouraged
Visitors must make sure that they turn up to sessions in clean, non-smelly attire and that they have showered before the class to avoid bad odours
